FROM THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR’S DESK

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to World Youth Alliance Africa. I hope you will find here relevant and useful information about our work.

I am grateful to be in a position to serve young people of Africa, the future of our continent in a journey to promote the dignity of every person. The work of WYA focuses on training young people to understand and be able to articulate the concept of human dignity and how this concept relates to different issues, most of which we still face here in Africa. We seek to promote people centered policies at international institutions where decisions are taken that affect all of us.

In Africa this concept of putting the person first and at the center of policymakers’ business is needed more than before at national as well as international levels and its relevance still alive, until this concept is fully understood.  Be it health policies, development aid, population related policies or the fight against HIV/AIDS there is trend in policies that reflect a little understanding of the needs of the person.

This kind of understanding of the needs of the person is not only found in international policies, it is present in governance in Africa and beyond. Be it corruption that robs the poor and marginalized of their rightful share in common good and blocks integral development or a simplistic view of wellbeing and development that looks at development as only a matter of income. Income is indeed an important part of it, but development policies should also seek to enable people to have a broad sense of their own wellbeing and opportunities to express and make choices about their lives and future.

The World Youth Alliance gives young people a platform to express their voices on matters that affect their lives and that of others. If you care about what is happening whether in policy or cultural trends and the way it affects all of us, join us today! The issues outlined above are just few of many examples where our work can offer an alternative and effective solution to today’s pressing problems and the more voices we have the louder we can shout and the more we can be heard.

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Hello, Africa! I feel honored by this opportunity to work with young people across mother Africa. Brothers and sisters committed to building free and just societies through a culture of life. A culture that affirms the inalienable dignity of the person, defends the intrinsic right to life, nurtures the family, and fosters a social climate favorable to integral development, solidarity, and mutual respect.

This message I believe, is more applicable in our day to day struggle to make our continent better. That is why I gladly chose to join the World Youth Alliance as a member, intern, volunteer and now staff.

I look forward in working together with you all in taking this message and ideas to as many individuals, communities, societies and countries as possible.
