From the 22nd to 27th of April, through a online format, the Training Human Dignity Defenders took place. This event, initially was going to be held in person in Lyon France, but due to the pandemic, had to be cancelled several times, and finally they decided and managed to do it via Zoom.

The fact of that the event was via videoconference, it was not much of an issue in terms of topics we talked about, as we could debate about them, in a very similar way as if it was in person.

The first day it started off with a presentation from each of the participants, and after, an explanation with the topics that were going to be tackled, and how the event was going to be structured

The following day, we learned an example of a problem/solution tree. It consists of writing down and brainstorming about a certain topic which we think something needs to be done regarding it. Then we create boxes with different ways of tackling it. It was an example of the methodology we were going to use in the following projects. Personally it helped me a lot, as I had never worked this way in terms of trying to solve a problem. It opened my mind. I liked it a lot, both due to its simplicity and efficiency of the work. When needed I am sure, I will use this technique.

The third day, some of the members, did a presentation on the topic: “Reaching the youth and reducing the violence”. When finished, some time was given to discuss what they had just presented, or to ask questions. In addition to these presentations, another ones were done as well, with topic: “ Best practices in communication: Strategy for hard to reach youth”.

The day after, the work dynamics were very similar to the previous day, as more presentations were done. We first listened to Elisabeth, the Regional director of WYA Europe, who explained us how we can reach youth throughout social media. She made us realize the importance of having a concrete and clear strategy is the key of success to achieve anything in life, and she applied specifically to a project in social media.

Followed to this, three more people did another explanation on how they had tried to help marginalised people in their cities. They were really enriching presentation, as we could see the different ways each person has, to deal with this situation (help people in need) depending on the country living.

The last day we had the closing ceremony. This consisted of aiming to take concrete actions that could have a certain repercussion  in terms of helping more marginalised people in our neighbourhood, or city, or wherever we want to help.

Mis aprendizajes del Training for Human Dignity Defenders
