Stand for Ecology

Whereas same sex person’s marriage has been legalized in a number of Anglo-Saxons countries, and also in Spain and Brazil, a movement of resistance against the destruction of this social pillar has emerged and is moving forward.

In France for instance, the “Manif Pour Tous” gathered

1,200,000 citizens on the street on the 13th of January and collected 700,000 signatures against the adoption of the new law in only two weeks.  In addition to many local actions, the second national manifestation is going to take place on the 24th of March. This movement is referred to as “French Spring”.

It is not only about marriage but also about protecting children’s filiation and the principle of unavailability of the human body.  This reform in France would lead to surrogacy and medical assistance to procreation for homosexual persons. The “French Spring” protest aims at creating a movement for human ecology. The ecological political movement, which started in the ‘70s, has been concerned with the respect of nature and the planet we will hand over to future generations. With the progress of biotechnology, a new ecology movement has emerged. It threatens the essence of human beings and raises many questions: How can we foster parity in society when it is no longer reality within the family structure? How can we advocate for human beings when individualism is the new ethical reference?

This movement is referred to as “French Spring”. What about a “European Spring”?

The ecological movement is also developing within the European Union. Have you ever heard of “One of Us”?  It is a European Citizen Initiative (ECI) launched last year to legally secure the dignity of the human embryo, which was recognized by the Court of Justice in the case Brüstle vs Greenpeace. The Court stated that the human embryo is the beginning of the development of the human being.

One of UsThe project of “One of Us” asks the EU to stop financing activities which involve the destruction of human embryos, in particular in the areas of research, development aid and public health. This could be achieved by changing the EU financial regulation that determines the spending of the EU budget.

This initiative has remained unpopular so far because many people do not believe in the power of democracy or because they have never heard of the initiative. Democracy rests on people’s voice and each voice can make a difference. You can make that difference here: SIGN and SHARE “One of Us”!
