The little Prince

“Frighten? Why should any one be frightened by a hat?”
That is the answer of the grown-ups on a picture, little Antoine de Saint-Exupery drew, in order to illustrate a boa constrictor digesting an elephant.
Conclusion: Grown-ups are so narrow-minded!
Maybe. But certainly not on this evening, March 2nd, where 12 so called grown-ups came together to accompany “the little prince” while his journey through the universe.
The main idea of my Dignity Project, “the little Prince” basically was to outline human dignity in literature and how the story could be referred to the main ideas of World Youth Alliance. In order to demonstrate that link, between human dignity and the book, I gave the audience a brief introduction into the main story and in addition, a short insight into my personal interpretation on the topic. Since the book does not only deal with issues such as Dignity, but also with values like love, freedom etc., I addressed those issues as well. To illustrate the travel of the little prince through the universe I presented a slide-show, demonstrating some key-scenes and phrases, appearing in the book. Later on, attendees were encouraged to give their personal input on some certain scenes, I selected, such as:

“It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge the others”
“It is also lonely among men”
“Be my friends, I am all alone”
“I thought my rose was unique in the world”
“You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed”

Thanks to the great input and smart ideas of all the participants (apparently they were not narrow-minded at all), we grasped a slight idea of what it means to be lonely, and what it means to be alone (yes, there is a difference between those two terms!), that love is what makes the beloved person unique and to tame somebody doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative action, in case it is happening because of love.

The evening smoothly ended by enjoying some nicely-prepared sandwiches and I am sure that afterwards, everyone of us was finally able to distinguish between an ordinary hat and a boa constrictor, digesting an elephant!
