WYA members from all over the world have been working to recognize sustainable development as an affirmation of the dignity of the person at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil.  The conference takes place June 20th-22nd.   Last week negotiations regarding important developments for the final document brought together hundreds of delegates from June 13th-19th.  The United Nations hosted the international conference in order to revisit commitments made 20 years ago, and to reset the sustainable development agenda for the future. The WYA advocacy team was present at Rio +20 to defend Principle 1 of the 1992 Rio Declaration which places the person at the center of all concerns for sustainable development, and to defend a person-centered approach to the three pillars of sustainable development: social, economic, and environmental.

WYA members also monitored the last week of Rio+20 negotiations in New York.  Check out ourfacebook page for the latest updates on WYA in Rio+20, and follow us on twitter #rioplus20 #futurewewant #futureplussocial.
