Every year, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) celebrates World Population Day and promotes ‘Reproductive Rights and Sexual Rights and services’ around the world. Clearly these are not the real needs of most of people, especially in the developing world where basic needs such as food, water, access to education and healthcare are absent or inaccessible.
This year’s World Population Day’s theme is adolescent pregnancies. UNFPA states their mission on their website: “on this World Population Day, we raise awareness of the issue of adolescent pregnancy in the hopes of delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.”
Tomorrow, on July 11th, for the occasion of World Population Day, the UNFPA will host a social media discussion on Facebook and Twitter. You can join the debate to give voice to intrinsic human dignity and ask them to address the underlying causes of teenage pregnancy by using the hastag: #worldpopday
